Find the contact info

Visit the competitor's website. Most small businesses list their email on the Contact or About page. Look for the owner's name — not the generic info@ address.

Can't find an email? Try:

  • Google: site:theirdomain.com contact
  • Their Google Maps listing (often has phone + sometimes email)
  • Their Facebook business page — About section
  • LinkedIn — search their business name, message the owner directly

The opening email — lead with value, not a pitch

Don't pitch your service. Give them something first. Here's a template that works:

Subject: What I noticed about [Their Competitor Name] this month

Hi [Owner Name],

I work with several [business type] businesses in [city] and I track what's happening across the local market as part of my practice.

I noticed [Competitor Name] recently [made a change / launched something / updated their pricing] — the kind of move that tends to shift foot traffic in the next 30–60 days.

I keep an eye on this stuff daily for my clients. Happy to share what I'm seeing in your market if it's useful — no strings attached.

When they say yes to a call, show them a real brief. Use one of your existing client briefs (redact the client name) or set up a free trial business just for the demo.

What to say on the call:
